International Platform 2014

Programme B -International Platform

Featuring festival highlight performances by International Artists from Asia to Europe.

Choreographed by Shintaro Oue (Sweden / Japan)
“BO.LE.RO” is a prize-winning work at the 7th Copenhagen International Choreography Competition (2014). It is the first of a planned trilogy, stemming from the musical and textual evocations that we associate with the word Bolero - most famously known as the title of the famed musical composition by M. Ravel. “BO.LE.RO” is a powerful, kinetic duet performed by Oue and dancer Piotr Giro.

Special thanks to konstnärsnämnden and Japan Foundation for their travel support, Kyoto Arts Centre for supporting the piece development in August 2014, and Satoshi Kudo for assisting the choreographer.

Highlight of Decline
Choreographed by Miwa Okuno (Japan)
Miwa Okuno presents a seamless marriage of sound art, video installation and movement in this choreography which was also awarded the French Embassy Prize for Young Choreographers, the MASDANZA prize at Yokohama Dance Collection EX-2013, and awarded the Jury prize at the MASDANZA18 festival in the same year.

Highlight of Decline
Special thanks to the Japan Foundation for their support.

How to Say...
Choreographed by Tung I-Fen (Taiwan)
“How to Say…” deconstructs and reconstructs language, establishing a strong physical structure as well as a solid linguistic structure which have been connected by metaphors: dance allows one to feel the unspeakable inner emotions without any words being said.

How to say
Special thanks to the National Culture and Arts Foundation for their support.

Galatea X (excerpt)
Choreographed by Justyne Li (Hong Kong) and Wong Tan-ki (Hong Kong)
Breathing life into his statue, the sculptor is at once being shaped by his own creation. Such intriguing transformation is irreversible, so is the metamorphosis of this dance work. “Galatea X” received the Hong Kong Dance Award 2014 for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography and Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer.
