 Programme A dMOTION

Programme A - Asian Festivals Exchange

Featuring collaborative choreography of Asian artists that is hosted by DPAC in Malaysia and T.H.E Dance Company / M1 CONTACT Festival in Singapore.

EXCHANGE 1: T.H.E Second Company & Seoul Dance Collection “Absence”
T.H.E Second Company’s Marcus Foo collaborates with Jin Byoung Cheol (Korea) to create a new work titled “Absence”, contemplates the selective blindness afflicting our increasingly affluent first-world societies. Often we obsess over the most trivial of concerns, perpetuated by mainstream media, in place of more pressing global issues. “Absence” makes its premiere at the Seoul Performing Arts Festival in October followed by M1 CONTACT Festival in and d’MOTION Festival in December.

Special thanks to Lee Jimin for her assistance, the staff of SPAF for managing Marcus Foo's Seoul residency; the seoul premiere cast of dancers Hwang Chanyong, Lee Joonwoon, Park Youngdae, Sin Seongeun.

EXCHANGE 2: d’MOTION/M1 CONTACT & Yokohama Dance Collection "The Body Speaks"
Lee Ren Xin (Malaysia) and Miwa Okuno (Japan) bridge the cultural gap through unconventional, cross disciplinary means: Lee’s inventive use of set and space, juxtaposed with Okuno’s movement studies in Indonesian martial arts and yoga, and an extensive use of video installation art.

Special thanks to the Japan Foundation for their support.

EXCHANGE 3: DPAC Dance Company & T.H.E Second Company "I See Skies of Blue"
Former Cloud Gate dancer and Artistic Director of DPAC Dance Company (Malaysia), Wong Jyh Shyong (JS) and dancers from DPAC Dance Company work for the first time with T.H.E Second Company dancers.

“I See Skies of Blue” is a postmodern metaphor that contemplates the incredulity of our belief in the best of times in which we now live, with its prescriptive rules and conventional behavioural patterns. “It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.” Charles Dickens
