Alexander Technique Workshop by Agnès de Brunhoff (France)

The Alexander Technique, a self-development skill, is a way of learning to help you to identify and lose the harmful habits you have built up over a lifetime of stress and learn to move more freely. It helps to boost your performance in any activity and relieve the pain and stress caused by postural habits. It is a way to feel better, and move in a more relaxed and comfortable way. But in order to do this, you first have to become aware of what isn't working so you can stop doing it, and that is very hard. The Alexander Technique is not yet another miracle cure or some new fad. It is a way of gradually accepting that many of the pains and tensions we suffer from are, in fact, a ‘natural’ consequence of how we live and work in everyday modern society.

Agnès de Brunhoff has been performing since the age of 15. As a singer, songwriter and trained classical pianist herself, she has a great affinity for stage performance and a deep understanding of how the voice works. De Brunhoff's first experience of the Alexander Technique revolutionized not only her awareness of the body but also her approach to music. In her teaching, she draws both on her own performance experience and also her extensive experience as a coach, guiding people step by step, with enthusiasm and patience, to help them develop their full potential.

“Since I started working with Agnes, I have become deeply convinced that it is thanks to her that I will be able to really fulfil my personal and professional potential.” - Mélisse Brunet, Orchestral Conductor

“Working on the Alexander Technique with Agnes has profoundly changed my awareness of my body, and this allows me, particularly in terms of the piano, to be both physically anchored and also free at the same time. The body, thought and sound become part of a bigger whole. It's an intense and fascinating way of working, which is now completely indispensable in my work as a pianist.” - Célimene Daudet, Pianist

“This work made me see that I was actually quite ok with my body; a body which was so kind and in fact asking for nothing more than simply to carry me. I mistreated it in spite of myself, [...] instead of finding a way to my voice through my body . This revolutionary work, with all its joys and pains, gently led me towards becoming lighter.” - Marianne Feder, Singer-songwriter

“Meeting Agnès was the catalyst which led me to become conscious of my body as a whole. She helped me to light a lantern inside myself and to reconnect my thoughts with my tools, my voice, my body! The way she demands you to be precise in both movements and thoughts has unleashed a new ease in my voice and for singing.” - Fady Jeanbart, Opera singer
