The Song Weavers, formed in 2015, is Malaysia’s first dedicated ensemble to the performance and programming of ‘Art Song’, a genre of vocal and chamber music that celebrates the wonderful synthesis of poetry and music. Consisting of six highly accomplished and award-winning musicians - four singers and two pianists – the performances by the ensemble has been very warmly received despite their recent existence.
About the performance
Song Weavers joins artists around the world in commemorating the 400th
anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death by dedicating an entire
concert programme of songs by different composers, with the text by ‘The
Bard’ himself. The concert features the world premiere of a song-cycle,
‘A Shakespeare’s Folio’ by The Song Weavers’ resident pianist-composer
Wong Chee Yean, specially commissioned for this project, as well as
guest appearances by ballet dancers from Dance Space.
