DPAC Arts Festival (DAF), DPAC's biennial festival, captures the essence of locally-born works which make Malaysia well-known as the melting pot of cultures. The Festival’s collaborative projects cultivate and co-present local artworks that can galvanise the young and old. We believe that arts should enrich and enliven the lives of all, whether creating or viewing. Besides, it wants arts to be easily accessible for artists and audiences to appreciate, enjoy and interact with one another.
This year, with great pleasure, we introduce to you The Nonsensemakers from Hong Kong in a masked theatre play of the virtues of filial piety, Travel With Mom, based on a true story and accompanied by folksy live music. You will also see the nation’s prominent arts practitioners from diverse practices such as the renowned percussion team, Hands Percussion, in collaboration with French artists perform their latest work Opium, The Song Weavers led by Ang Mei Foong takes you to the world of Art Songs with guest appearances by ballet dancers from Dance Space Academy, theatrethreesixty in partnership with the KL Shakespeare Players presents the most “relevant of Shakespeare’s plays for the modern era”, Titus Andronicus, and a 21st century experimental music workshop performance led by Goh Lee Kwang. Next, the collaboration of Goethe-Institut Malaysia and DPAC Dance Company presents a new dual-contemporary dance by German choreographer, Ben J. Riepe and DDC’s Artistic Director, Wong Jyh Shyong.
In addition to all the excitement, a wonderful surprise awaits you! We bring you free and fun-filled programmes like seven site-specific dances by MyDance Alliance and a collection of outstanding artworks produced by new artists and current students of Dasein Academy of Art in the vicinity of DPAC.
We hope that you will experience the ingenuity and creativity behind these Malaysian creations while having a fantastic time and feeling a strong sense of fulfillment at the DPAC Arts Festival from 25th to 31st July 2016.
